Oslo English Players is an international theatre company based in Norway’s capital. Our ensemble consists of actors, directors, and theatre professionals who have relocated to Oslo for diverse reasons, including work, family, and political circumstances. United by a shared belief in the power of theatre to transcend borders, we are dedicated to building cultural bridges and creating opportunities for English-language performance in Norway.
Our members bring extensive professional and semi-professional experience from theatre scenes around the world. Recognizing the limited opportunities for English-speaking actors in Norway, we have established Oslo English Players as a platform for excellence, collaboration, and innovation in performance.
Oslo English Players exists to address a significant cultural gap: the absence of a sustained, professional English-language theatre presence in the Nordic region. While other European cultural hubs such as Vienna and Frankfurt host thriving English-language theatres, Oslo—despite its growing international community and global tourist appeal—remains underserved in this regard.
Our mission is particularly rooted in bringing Henrik Ibsen’s works to international audiences in English. As the second-most performed playwright in the world, Ibsen attracts visitors from across the globe who travel to Norway to explore his heritage. However, unless fluent in Norwegian, these visitors rarely experience his plays on stage. We aim to change this by producing high-quality performances of Ibsen in English, directly within the country that inspired his legacy.
Oslo English Players is committed to presenting professional, accessible, and engaging theatre in English for both residents and visitors. Our productions will encompass classic repertoire, contemporary works, and above all, Ibsen performed in English in Oslo.
Through this work, we aspire to enrich Oslo’s cultural landscape, foster cross-cultural dialogue, and establish the city as a destination for English-language theatre in Scandinavia.
Over the next five years, Oslo English Players will grow into the preeminent English-language theatre in the Nordic region. In 2026, we will launch Ibsen on the Fjord, a landmark production series offering audiences a unique opportunity to encounter Ibsen’s plays performed in English against the dramatic backdrop of Norway’s natural landscapes.
By 2028, coinciding with the bicentenary of Ibsen’s birth, we plan to establish Ibsen on the Fjord as an annual International Ibsen Festival in English, positioning Oslo English Players as a central contributor to global theatre and cultural exchange.
